More than two million windsurfers have a basic windsurfing license. Five training associations from Austria, Switzerland and Germany have joined together to form the VAW (United training associations windsurfing) and issue a unique basic licence, which is officially required on some waters in Germany.
The WSVO (Wassersport Schulvereinigung Österreich) is a foundation member of the VAW. The internationally known certificate makes hiring of boards especially, much easier. Many holiday clubs in Germany and abroad insist on this licence when it comes to hiring of boards. Since the season 2003 the licence also contains confirmation sections of various advanced skills.
The Austrian and German Windsurfing Association provide a certificate for Junior Windsurfers: The Kid Basic Windsurfing Licence
It is valid until the age of 13. Then the adult licence can be required after passing the theoretical exam.
